Bifocal lenses are a very good solution for all those people who, after their cataract surgery, have the desire to see well far (e.g. for driving or hiking) and at medium distances (e.g. for PC work and cooking), but are not bothered by reading glasses for activities in the near at approx. 35cm (e.g. reading a book, knitting).
The optic of the lens contains the so-called «EDOF technology», which means «Extended Depth of Focus» in English and «Extended depth of field» in German. The lens also contains a blue light filter.
In contrast to trifocal lenses, the bifocal lens has no disadvantages such as slightly reduced contrast vision and pools of light around light sources at night (so-called halo effect). However, it requires wearing reading glasses for small text.
Apart from high astigmatism (over 1.5 diopters) there are very few contraindications for bifocal lenses. The lens is suited for nearly everyone. A prevailing Astigmatism up to 1.5 diopters can be corrected during surgery by an additional surgical step.

In the case of bilateral surgery, in most patients one eye is targeted for very slight myopia to further promote visual acuity at the middle distance. Your Vista Alpina ophthalmologist will gladly discuss the best solution for you in detail during a personal consultation appointment.
